HEALING INSTRUCTIONS:

YOUR FOLLOW-UP VISIT FOR MAXIMUM RESULTS

  • All NEW permanent cosmetics require two visits.  Schedule your second appointment as follows:

  • 4-6 weeks for eyebrows and eyeliner

  • 6 weeks for lips

  • Colorboost procedures are one visit only

PERMANENT COSMETICS AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

Proper care following your procedure is necessary to achieve the best results. Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of color is to be expected. This is the purpose of the touch-up visit.

All clients - Immediately following any permanent makeup procedure:

DO NOT:

  • Dust or vacuum for two days

  • Touch the area with your fingers (especially the eyes!!)

  • Use any new products or makeup in the area for a week - if the client feels like they NEED to put a little light powder on their brows before leaving the house, they can sparingly. Just make sure everything is clean and sanitary - brushes, applicators, etc. if you can avoid this, that is perfered and recommended; but if it is feels like a MUST, then follow the steps above.

  • Pick or peel any of the procedure

  • Use Retin-A during the healing process (Retin-A will prematurely fade your permanent makeup.  Remember it spreads 1 ½ inches

  • Expose your healing skin to direct sun, tanning beds, hot tubs, baths if body area treated, saunas, salt water, chlorinated pools, direct shower spray, hot water, skin creams, ointments, or lotions other than what you have been instructed to use for 2 weeks following your procedure.

PLEASE:

  • Use a fresh laundered pillow case upon retiring

  • Use a gentle face wash morning and at bedtime

  • Wash your hands before touching any treated area.

  • Shower as usual - just watch the pressure and temperature of the water so it does not act as an irritant to the freshly tattooed brows.

  • You may ice 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off as needed for swelling. Always cover the ice bag with plastic wrap before using.

  • Sleeping slightly elevated to alleviate swelling

  • If needed, Tylenol is recommended. Aleve and Advil are blood thinners and are not recommended

  • Only use cotton tipped applicators to apply ointments or cleanse the area

  • IF you ABSOLUTELY MUST change your kitty litter yourself (try to get a friend,) please wear safety goggles for five days post procedure

  • Continue to take Valtrex 7 days post procedure

LONG-TERM CARE

  1. Use a good sunscreen daily - even the lips require protection. Sun exposure will fade your permanent cosmetics and may cause irritation even years later.

  • It is important to ALWAYS wear sunscreen on brows or lips, even in the winter

  • The sun will quickly fade tattooed areas

  • Regular sunscreen may make brows appear gray or hazy in color

  • 30 SPF Color Guard is recommended to protect tattoos from sun exposure- sold at AOI upon check out

2. If you are planning chemical exfoliation, MRI, or other medical procedure, please inform your physician of your cosmetic tattoo.

3.   Check face wash when you get home-- If face wash has any ingredients such as BENZOYL PEROXIDE, PEROXIDE, GLYCOLIC ACID, SALICYLIC ACID, ANY ACID, ,ETC…. you must wash your face and avoid the tattooed areas of your face. These ingredients above will LIGHTEN your tattoos.

4.   If you donate blood, it is a Red Cross policy that you must wait one year after any tattooing procedure in unregulated states — check if restrictions apply to you.

Brows Will Appear Very Dark And Swollen Immediately After Your Procedure…

Immediately after your tattoo procedure, your brows will appear very vivid, dark, swollen, and “chalk-like.” Brows will remain like this for about 5-7 days before they will peel, soften and significantly lighten. This can be hard for the client and family members to adapt to after the procedure. It is normal to go through all of the emotions during that first week following your procedure. However, it is important to remind yourself that the color and shape will keep changing every day over the next 4 weeks. You will not really know how your brows will look and/or heal until a minimum of 3 weeks after the procedure.

These photos will help you adapt to the healing process emotional rollercoaster!

BROWS:

  • Apply Collini MD Healing Ointment (can substitute with Cicalfate or Aquaphor) the first three days and nights with Q-tips

  • If after day 3, you still feel like your skin and brows would benefit from keeping the healing ointment longer, you can extend this time frame, and continue using the cream.

  • Once your brows feel “well enough” to go without the healing cream, it is recommended to take a 2 day break from the healing cream. . We recommend doing this on day 4 and 5 after your procedure. This will allow brows to dry out and therefore peel. If brows remain too hydrated (never giving a break from the healing ointment), then the peeling process may take longer to complete.

  • On the sixth night, apply Collini MD Healing Ointment with Q-tips

  • In the five-day interim you can use hydrocortisone ONLY IF NEEDED for dryness and itchiness.

  • It is OKAY to get brows WET in a shower. Just be careful of shampoo, face creams, or any soaps that may irritate the brows. Do not go swimming or submerge brows in water for extended periods of time during the first week of the healing process.

  • It will take four weeks for the color to blossom!  You cannot rush Mother Nature

  • Brows may appear VERY LIGHT, RED or MAROON upon initial peeling; this is normal – this is just your skin healing. It is called the “ghosting phase.” Color will emerge in the next few days.

  • Remember: Brows are swollen, dark, and intense right now! Let the process take its time… they will calm down, peel and lighten and you will love them!

  • Once brows are healed, you may use brow powder or pencil in the interim to tweak anything you may want different, fill in any gaps, or make brows look darker until your follow up appointment. Makeup will take seconds instead of minutes!

  • Brows will crust and peel within a week (usually between days 5-7 +/-) – they will peel like a sunburn - sometimes in long strips, and/or sometimes in little tiny speckles.

  • Around day 5, after you shower and the steam has opened up your pores, you may use a gentle warm washcloth in small, slow circular motions over the “ready to peel eyebrows” in order to encourage and remove any excess peeling.

EYELINER:

  • The morning after the procedure your eyes may appear puffy, as though you were crying the night before.  The puffiness usually dissipates in the afternoon.

  • They may be sticky shut, that’s NORMAL: splash a little water to release them

  • Ice as needed

  • Eyeliner area will crust on the fifth day

  • If eyes are dry, red, itchy, or burning, go to a drug store to purchase an eye lubricant – Use as directed. This will calm the burn.

  • DO NOT double dip or use your fingers to apply the lubricant

  • If eyes feel abnormally burning, red, or itchy at any point after the procedure, or if it is hard to open your eyes around the brightness of lights, please contact Lauren immediately - 570-760-8468. If she does not answer, please call Dr. Collini at 570-760-8464 and explain the situation, and he will be happy to see you and/or write you a prescription for a possible corneal abrasion.

  • It will take four weeks for the color to blossom! You cannot rush Mother Nature

  • Do not use mascara for one week post procedure.  Do not use waterproof mascara for one month.  Only use a new tube of non-waterproof mascara.

  • Do not use an eyelash curler for two weeks post procedure.

LIP COLOR:

  • Immediately following the procedure, use the Collini MD Healing Ointment.

  • Collini MD Healing Ointment will be your best friend for the next 1-2 months. You may use it all day, every day as if it were a chap stick.

  • Lips will appear very vivid for two days

  • Usually on the third day your lips will begin to crust and peel:  you may use a warm washcloth in small, slow circular motions over the tattooed lip area to encourage and remove any excess peeling – continue using Collini MD Healing Cream.

  • DO NOT pick or encourage them to peel too quickly

  • Your lips will appear very light after crusting - almost like, “Where did my color go??!! It’s gone!” But, it takes 6 weeks for the color to blossom!  You cannot rush Mother Nature! One day closer to the 6 week mark, you will be walking by the mirror and just say to yourself, “Wow! My lips really popped!”

  • Your lips will feel dry and dull for about one month, so continue using the Collini MD Healing Ointment as needed.

  • If you pre-medicated (for herpes) for your lip procedure, continue to do so for 7 days post

  • Do not use whitening toothpaste for two weeks post procedure.

  • Avoid spicy foods or heat to lips during the healing process.
