Tattoo Color & Shape Corrections

Cosmetic Tattooing has been a practiced procedure for centuries. And every few years, a new technique or new color is launched claiming it’s “the next best thing.” While this may be true at the time, only true time will tell how these new techniques, color and procedures will hold up in the future.

In this section, I will explain all your options if you happen to fall into any of the following categories:

  1. “I do not like my permanent makeup and want it gone, lighter, or different.”

  2. “My previous artist did a decent job at the time, but now they have faded into something I do not like.”

  3. “I did not keep up with the maintenance of my eyebrows with color-boosts, and now I want them improved, changed, or gone.”

  4. “Social beauty standards have changed, and the previous shape and color I picked for my brows does not reflect these new beauty standards.”

  5. “I liked my brows at first, but then I came for my touch up or color-boost, and now they are too much. I would prefer if they were lighter, skinnier, and/or less intense.”

  6. “I want my eyebrows to be dark, as dark as possible, but no matter how many color-boosts I get, I can not achieve a super dark brow.”

  7. “I keep coming for touch-ups, and I just can’t seem to be happy.”

  8. “The artist totally screwed up my cosmetic tattooing and now it is stuck on my face. What do I do?”

  9. “I love my permanent makeup, but I just wish it was a little thicker/thinner than it is now.”

  10. “I love my permanent makeup, but I wish it always looked natural and I did not have to come for color-boosts every so often.”

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY BROWS AS TIME GOES ON?

How Will They Fade And Shift With My Face?

I get asked this question a lot: “What happens when my skin ages and gets wrinkly and I still have tattooed brows?” And I always say the same thing: “No matter how your skin ages, your eyebrows will fall naturally with the rest of your skin.” Your brows will NOT remain in the same place they are now as your skin ages and falls. If the client wants or needs to address “falling brows” in the future, a consultation with Dr. Collini at the Renaissance Center for Plastic Surgery can certainly be arranged.

It is important to remember, although Eyebrow Tattooing can certainly be your “everyday makeup look,” this procedure is not necessarily meant to “replace makeup.” Traditional eyebrow pencil and/or shadow can be used periodically or daily to enhance or exaggerate the existing tattooed eyebrow.

Blondes and Medium Brown Haired Clients will likely have their brows fade to a “reddish/pinkish/very light color.” Dark haired clients will likely have their brows fade to a “greyish, ashy color.” Once you see these shades coming through, that is an indication it is time for a color-boost. Depending on the client’s lifestyle and personal preference, they can proceed with several different options: 1.) Yearly to bi-yearly color-boosts, 2.) Letting them fade naturally, 3.) Keeping the outline and using makeup to enhance them, 4.) Deciding to get them removed with laser (which we also offer) because they have chosen to not keep up with the maintenance.

Dark Haired Clients that have been tattooed and color-boosted for 10+ years will likely always have the “grey/ashy color” on the surface of their brows. The skin is like a cup; it can only be filled so much before it overflows. Once brows have been saturated for 10+ years, there are not a lot of options left. In this case, 1.) brow pencil or shadow can be used to “warm up the brow color,” or 2.) laser tattoo removal can be done for several rounds in order to make more room for more pigment to be implanted.

Some clients would never dream of removing their tattooing brows and are comfortable just using a little bit of pencil or shadow over top of their tattooed brow for extra desired warmth. Other clients may attempt multiple color-boosts to warm up the color, but the ashy tones always seem to come back. Depending on how the client wants to proceed is totally up to their personal preference.

What happens if i like my cosmetic tattooing, but i want to change the shape or color?

Clients who feel this way have a lot of options. In this section, I will go over all of your options from the easiest and cheapest of maintenance to the more invasive, time consuming, and more expensive options.

  1. Clients can add their own makeup to their brows to change the shape or color.

  2. Lauren can tattoo a solution called “Lyft,” into the skin which gently lightens the pigment. This can take multiple sessions for desired results, with 4-6 weeks between each session. Price is determined upon consultation.

  3. Lauren can add “skin color camouflage” tattooing to the outside edges to thin out the exterior of the brow or to crisp up the lines. Price is determined upon consultation.

  4. Lauren can perform a “tattoo cover-up” by reshaping the tattoo and color correcting the tattoo color. This can be done with colored ink pigments and/or skin colored pigments. Price is determined upon consultation.

  5. The client can get Laser Removal by Derek Peters, the director of the Collini Laser Clinic. At the Collini Laser Clinic, Derek uses the Cynosure Picosure Laser. This is one of the best on the market for permanently removing tattoos with little to no ghosting, scarring, or problems.

    • If a client wants to lighten their tattoos, but not get rid of them, 1-3 sessions may only be necessary. If a client wants to totally remove the tattoo pigment, multiple sessions of 6-12 sessions might be necessary. Each session is 8 weeks apart. Makeup can be used in the interim to cover the unwanted tattoo pigment in the meantime.

    • The cost for this service is normally $150.00 per “the size of a business card;” so it is likely each session to remove permanent makeup would run at about $150.00.

thicker, darker and more “chalk-like” than they will be upon healing.
